Youth

woven into the fabric of everything we do

Blessing Bags Reagan

Our youth are not a program tucked away in a back room. They are woven into the fabric of everything we do.

During the school year, youth gather for Sunday School following the worship service, with conversations grounded in the real questions and pressures of their everyday lives.

The youth group meets regularly through the fall, winter, and spring. Summer brings a more informal pace, but our youth stay engaged, showing up to help with Vacation Bible School, our food program, and Messy Church. Several participate in Sunday morning worship itself, leading liturgy and taking a visible role in the service.

This is an intergenerational congregation, and that shows. Our youth work, serve, and worship alongside adults, and both groups are better for it.

Sermons of Service

On Sundays when the calendar lands on a fifth week, we hold a Sermon of Service in place of our usual worship format. The service is shorter, and then the whole congregation rolls up its sleeves together. These projects have included assembling laundromat kits with detergent, dryer sheets, quarters, and handwritten notes of encouragement, then delivering them to local laundromats on Sunday morning. We have organized letter-writing campaigns for city officials and pastors in our community. We have put together goodie bags for hospital workers and hygiene kits for neighbors in need. Recently, youth and adults made lunch together and wrote personal notes of encouragement for the guests who come to our food program.

The work is simple and the impact is real, and there is something particular that happens when a congregation serves shoulder to shoulder.
